Position Summary
The Controller is responsible for the oversight of the day-to-day organization’s financial
planning and accounting practices including financial reporting, investment management,
insurance renewals, budgeting, accounts payable, receivable and payroll services. The
Controller provides leadership through management of the finance and accounting
departments providing information, primarily financial in nature, about all department
activities that will assist management and other users in making educated economic
decisions about the company's financial matters.
Essential Duties and Functions:
Financial Operations & Analysis
• Oversees the activities of the corporate accounting department for the accurate and
timely dissemination of financial management reports including, but not limited
to, internal monthly financial statements/reporting packages and external annual
audits.
• In conjunction with community managers and corporate level managers,
proactively develops new reports and tools, or modifies existing ones, to provide
maximum value and insight for the users of the information.
• Ensures accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, petty cash, core
employee expense reports, cash control, payroll processing and total corporate
payroll tax compliance.
• Works closely with the Director of Revenue Cycle Management to assist in the
coordinating the activities of the accounts receivable department to ensure the
accurate and timely management of all accounts receivable aging components
including billings, cash receipts application, etc.
• Assures corporate income tax compliance to assure the accurate and timely
completion of all corporate income tax returns taking full advantage of all
favorable tax codes.
• Manages the relationship with the organization’s external auditors and serves as
the coordinator and primary contact for the annual audit and all related filings
such as, but not limited to, Medicare and Medicaid cost reports and other state and
federal reporting.
• Establish and maintain systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems,
processes, and data.
• Participates in a wide variety of special projects and compiles a variety of special
reports.
• Oversees financial management reports, financial statements as needed and
coordination of monthly closings.
• Responsible for maintaining the organization’s financial accounting policies and
procedures and assures the organization’s accounts and reports are maintained in
accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Interfaces with the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors as needed or
requested and supplies the members with the information they need to carry out
their obligations.
• As a critical member of the organization's financial management, participates as
needed and requested in any other ad hoc project or area.
Leadership
• Delivers feedback to staff related to departmental vision and development
opportunities; responsible for individual performance feedback
• Makes informed hiring decisions by ensuring candidates are the appropriate fit for
the department from a technical, strategic and cultural standpoint.
• Coaches, models and advocates all WEL initiatives
• Documents individual performance metrics, behaviors, discipline and
performance ratings and delivers feedback in an appropriate, courteous and
professional manner.
Qualifications:
• A minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial management
• In-depth knowledge of accounting software, corporate principals, and financial
analysis.
• Ability to identify financial accounting opportunities and alternatives to meet
organizational objectives
Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or re lated field, master's degree in
accounting, finance or related field preferred.
