  • Overview

    Summary: The Radiology Technician assists the provider (Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner) in examination and treatment of patients by performing the following duties.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Patient communication and preparation including removal of garments of jewelry that may interfere with procedures and explaining how the process works
    • Positioning patients properly to obtain x-rays and images
    • Setting equipment to obtain the best density, detail and contrast of the area being imaged
    • Perform basic verification and quality control checks on radiographic and film processing equipment
    • Apply radiation protective measures and appropriate care for the patient during the examination
    • Properly operate x-ray and radiographic equipment to produce radiographic images of the human body for diagnosis by the Provider of disease or injury
    • Follow applicable regulations: Joint Commission, OSHA, HIPAA, CLIA / COLA
    • Additional duties, as needed:
      • Perform initial vital signs and recheck as necessary
      • Medicate patients per orders within scope of practice
      • Carry out wound care for scrubs-abrasions, small cuts, puncture wounds
      • Apply wound dressing
      • Apply ace bandages
      • Apply splints according to provider orders
      • Collection and processing of lab specimens. (UA, sputum, stool, etc.)
      • Perform CPR
      • Assist with pelvic exams
      • Assist with visitor control and in notifying patients/families of any delay in care
      • Draw venous labs
      • Perform suture removal
      • Insertion of urine catheters
      • Administer basic oxygen therapy per policy or order
      • Placement of pulse oximetry and cardiac monitor
      • Obtain 12 lead EKG per policy or order
      • Removal of peripheral venous access
      • Triaging patients
      • Discharge patients per policy
      • Provide patient education as appropriate
      • Document all interventions, responses to interventions, and changes in patient status in the electronic medical record
      • Provide age appropriate care for patients
      • Demonstrate proficiency with sterile instrument procedures
      • Perform soiled instrument prep and sterilization
      • Perform glucose monitoring
      • Perform daily and weekly cleaning duties as assigned
      • Function as resource for Medical Assistants and other team members

    Education and/or Experience:

    • Ability to multi-task in fast-paced work environment, with ability to anticipate future needs.
    • Medical terminology and accurate spelling ability required.

     

    Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess and maintain one of the following: Limited Scope X-ray (LST) certificate - or - American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) certificate. Must maintain licensure/certification per state guidelines. Must be CPR/AED certified. Child Abuse clearances and criminal background checks required.

     

    Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. An exceptional communicator, orally and written. Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively and courteously deal with patients and families, clients, coworkers, clinical staff and physicians.

     

    Reasoning Ability: Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to provide as well as interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

     

    Computer Skills: To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of electronic medical records, and basic computer user skills. 

                          

    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand or walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear; reach, stoop, bend, kneel, and/or crouch. The employee must frequently lift supplies and/or equipment and may be responsible for lifting, positioning, and/or transferring patients. 

     

    Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. The employee may be exposed to infectious or contagious diseases and a variety of electromechanical hazards. The employee may also handle emergency and/or crisis situations.
