    Railroad & Transit Team

     

    Burns provides design and construction solutions to help maintain, improve, and expand the nation's railroad and transit infrastructure.  We have designed the implementation of critical programs across the country, and we support the renewed emphasis on a public transit-oriented lifestyle.

     

    Burns is currently seeking a Construction Inspector to join our Philadelphia, PA team. The current work involves night shift work and is anticipated to last for approximately one year with potential for additional assignments afterwards. The current work also involves MEP-related projects in railroad building facilities located in Center City Philadelphia.

    Responsibilities

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Observes work in progress to ensure conformance with specifications.
    • Examines workmanship of finished installations for conformity to standards.
    • Maintains daily report of construction inspection activities.
    • Prepares sketches of construction installations that deviate from plans and incorporates changes into master plans.
    • Inspects equipment operation and material on the job site. Interprets specifications as related to materials and workmanship.
    • Assumes responsibility of administering portions of the contract, which includes preparing change orders and pay requests.
    • Responsible for quality assurance and control process and procedures.
    • Maintain official project log and documentation files.
    • Receives moderate supervision from senior-level Construction Services staff. May be assigned to work independently on a project with some complex features. 

    Qualifications

    Minimum Requirements

    • Bachelor's (B.S.) Engineering degree from an accredited post-secondary program is preferable but not required.
    • Requires building and/or transit-related construction inspection experience.
    • Minimum five (5) years of relevant progressive experience is preferred; or the equivalent gained through relevant experience.
