We help our clients attain their strategic goals and initiatives through successful large-scale infrastructure projects. Burns’ full-service capabilities include structural, civil, mechanical, electrical, and energy consulting engineering.


    Railroad & Transit Team


    Burns provides design and construction solutions to help maintain, improve, and expand the nation's railroad and transit infrastructure.  We have designed the implementation of critical programs across the country, and we support the renewed emphasis on a public transit-oriented lifestyle.

    Burns is currently seeking a Construction Manager to join our Philadelphia, PA team. The current work involves night shift work and is anticipated to last for approximately one year with potential for additional assignments afterwards. The current work also involves MEP-related projects in railroad building facilities located in Center City Philadelphia.

    Primary Responsibilities

    • Provide overall administrative and technical direction for projects.
    • May direct several small and/or medium size projects through subordinate managers and/or construction inspectors under the supervision of Project Manager.
    • Oversee total construction effort to ensure project is constructed in accordance with design, budget, and schedule. Includes interfacing with client representatives, A/E representatives, contractors, subcontractors, security, etc.
    • Plan, coordinate and/or supervise field activities of all company personnel on assigned project(s).
    • Authorize/approve all project personnel transactions (transfers, wages, etc.), purchase requisitions, change requests, etc., under supervision of Project Manager.
    • Ensure all company, client, and project policies, procedures, standards, etc., are adhered to. Interpret policies as required.
    • Maintain official project log and documentation files.
    • Assist with implementation/interpretation of safety programs.
    • Provide direction to planning, scheduling, and engineering functions as required.
    • Perform additional assignments per supervisor’s direction.


    Minimum Requirements

    • Professionally Licensed Engineer with a Bachelor's (B.S.) Engineering degree from an accredited post-secondary program is preferable but not required.
    • At least 10 years of construction experience is preferable but not required.
    • Candidate must have excellent communication skills and ability to work with both clients and contractors.
    • Demonstrated familiarity with various common job site conditions, problems encountered in assigned territory, and proper procedures for refinement. Commissioning, punch list, and contract management.
    • Able to assist in management of client-contractor-Project Manager liaison.
    • NICET Certification is preferable but not required.
    • Professionally Licensed Engineer is preferable but not required.
